Based on Murray Richter’s award-winning, YA (young adult) novels, FISHING FOR LUCK is destined to be a family film classic. In the spirit of such fan favorites as Stand By Me and Home Alone, this coming-of-age story recounts how one summer transformed three twelve-year-old pranksters into respectable young men.
Readers of Murray's first book, "Lucky Rocks", will enjoy seeing his beloved, but mischievous main characters presented in this movie adaptation. Inspired by both of Mr. Richter's celebrated novels, the film version showcases his fun pre-teens in a thrilling, yet heartwarming new way.
In June of 1979, the citizens of Marlin Springs, Texas have had enough of the rambunctious “Three Amigos”: Preech Peters, the “brains” of the outfit; Rudy Valencia, the hometown football star; and Kevin Saunders, a boy struggling with the death of his brave dad in Vietnam while being haunted by a cruel stepfather. When these pre-teens aren’t chasing their first passion, fishing, they’re concocting epic pranks at the town’s expense. Instead of juvenile detention, Judge Malcom Witherspoon sentences the trio to Oliver “The Oracle” Trumbull’s Bootcamp for Wayward Boys.
